Opal Rainforest & Total for year (21) pairs of socks
My total for pairs of socks this year is 21! You can see the others on my other sock blog!
I got the newest set of Opal rainforest! I can't wait to work on them! Of course, I still have some from the other sets not knitted so if I was good I will knit them first! It has been a hard year! I did managed to get 21 pairs of socks done this year even still! I don't know what next year will hold for me in living and knitting but I will keep making them as long as it is possible. I can't die and leave so much yarn unknitted!

Every year seems slower!
Well, it is now the end of May and I haven't done much in the way of socks. I think I am coming closer to the end of making socks in large quantity. This year I have suffered from health problem worse than any year before. It and taking care of the house and raising a child has taken most of my energy and free time.

Slow Start!
I am off to a slow start this year! I have socks to post pictures of but have been having computer and printer problems! It is old age for both of them. I got a new laptop but no printer yet! Really need another desk top computer. I consider myself a heavy computer user since I do so many different things with it. If all I did was read mail I would be fine. Looking for one that is reasonable in price. Haven't found one yet that will meet my needs and not break the bank!
Hope to have everything up and running by April.

End of 2009
A another year is coming to an end again! I only managed 15 socks done this year! Far less than last year! This has been a very busy year and it moved way too fast!
My goal for the new year is to lose weight and make at least 30 pairs! I am going to dig out the stash and pick out 30 new hanks of sock yarn (yes, I have more than 30 skeins of yarn) and put in a clear bag so I can see what I plan to do for this new year! It really helps me to see my goal. This a fun goal! I don't stress over it if it doesn't come to pass because life happens and things never really go as planned. It is always fun to dream!
First thing is to finish up last years socks in progress! That will give me a start on the new year! Once last years socks are finished I will take a small break to finish other non-sock projects to finish this year!

Moved In
Finally have only one home to worry about. Now, for some serious unpacking and sock knitting to be done. I am really looking forward to getting the current ones done. I went through them and found I have about 4 in the final faze. cuffs to knit. I have to say that is my least favorite thing to do unless it is lace of some kind. Ok maybe working the decreases to toe when I don't know the length of the foot because it is a surprise. It is a pain to knit the same toe area 5 times to make it fit. I'm a short row toe gal. I love the way it looks and the way it fits so when ever I can do short row toe I am happy.

New Year is Here! 2009
I am working hard on many projects! Socks are not center stage yet this year! I wanted to finish other types of projects which have been neglected last year. This blog has become my Opal Rainforest sock blog The other sock blog will continue to be every other kind of sock yarns including regular Opal yarn but not Opal Rainforest ones. I am going to put non socks stuff somewhere. Haven't decided yet.

Lorna's Laces Sport weight LakeView Finished!
These are so pretty! Hubby got these for his sport warm collection of socks. Last year his fingering weight socks were not warm enough to wear when he took the bus to work. My hubby is so sweet. He takes the bus at least 3 or 4 days a week to save money on gas. It really helps us be able to pay the bills. It is a pain since he has to walk a ways to catch it and it takes a extra 30 to 45 minutes to get home. It helps me buy a skein or 2 when I get a good deal on ebay. I have gotten some really good deals.
Needle 2.5mm
Cast on 68
Short row toe and heel!

Lorna's Laces River color! Finished!
These came out so cute!
Cast on 60 decrease to 56 for flap and then rest of sock. Daughter loves them so much that she wore them all day after I hide the strings without being washed first.
My Gauge is 9 stitches per inch on a 2.5mm They are big on her since I want her to be able to wear them for a long time. Will just adjust the toe with extra yarn left over as needed as she grows. This was only one skein of Lorna's Laces in River color. Only had one!
I am so tired lately I am not sure I want to make too many more socks this year. May take the rest of the year off. Of course, I really can't since I have friends and family waiting for their socks.

Opal Rainforest 2 Pfau Finished!

What only 8 stitches left before working back up on short row heel! Crazy?
NOT! Opal Rainforest 2 Raupe Another picture was posted when I finished the actual pair on an earlier blog entry. No one told her to kiss the sock!
Here is a picture of what my 8 stitches left in the middle on a short row heel looks like. They fit my husband's foot perfect. I say it all depends on the foot shape. I get a gauge of 9 stitches per inch.
Is it a Bee or Tiger?
Finished 9-9-07 Rainforest Hummel 1613 to be exact!
I just had to try something. I cast on one sock with 2.0mm at 88 stitches. and the other was knit with the new size from knit picks 2.25 cast on of 82. I made sure they measured exactly the same. The pattern changed very little as you can see. I just love them. They are for hubby as usual. My mother thought it looked more like a tiger than a Bee.
I got 11 stitches/inch & 16 rows/inch on 0 needles. 10 stitches/inch & 15 rows/inch on 1 (2.25mm .
New and Old knee socks!
Opal Traumfanger 1233 (Dream Catcher)
I wasn't ready to send these socks to the too short pile. So I took the entire foot out by cutting off the toe and ripping all the way back to the ankle and then remeasuring her foot and working a whole new sock from the ankle down to the toes. They came out just as cool as the first pair. First pair is the one with the black chair background. New pair is just folded over. Each pair is identical to it's mate. I can't believe I was able to do that with left over yarn and what I ripped from the old sock. Now, she will have warm knee socks for another season. I have plans to do that with a few more pairs as they become too small. Note: The yarn shows no wear or difference from the worn and wash socks next to the new yarn that way left from the original socks. Opal is a very hardy yarn. I truly love the finished products. It is very stiff to work with unwashed but that is a small price to pay for great lasting color and yarn.

Lorna's Laces Bee Stripe
Can't decide which view I like best! They are so cute! My five year old is very happy! Already picked 2 more skeins for more socks!
Finished in the wee hours of the morning accept hiding the threads! August 14th.
Cast on 68 and then decreased slowly to 56 for heel flap and foot!
Needles 1.5 (2.5)
I left plenty of room to grow all over! Am hoping she wears these at least a year.

Lorna's Laces Ravenswood & Mt. Creek Socks
Finished July 11, 2007
Both are single socks! I am using up my single skeins of sock yarn. Hubby loves colorful socks. He will choose which of the single socks to wear with each of other single socks when I am done with all the single skeins. This way if one get a hole he will still have a few to choose from.
These two are cast on of 76 with needle 2.50 short row heel and toe. Love them!
Knit Picks wool and silk dye it yourself yarn
Finished June 30, 2007
Knit picks yarn
Made on 0 and 1 size needles. Cast on 64 with needle size 1. Switched to size 0 increased to 68 for short row heel & foot. Made a very soft sock. If I had made the foot longer. My daughter would be wearing them for years. Really was surprised at how much I loved this yarn. Too many wonderful yarns and not enough time to knit them all. Wish her feet would slow down growing so I could keep up with her socks. lol All her knee socks are too short for winter but still in perfect shape. Plan to cut off the toes and reknit them longer. I have done that for many of her other socks and it really has extended the life of the socks.
Opal Rainforest 2 Raupe
I am working my way through the rainforest 2 collection of Opal. Don't know if I will do them all but I am trying.
Finished June 30, 2007
Opal Rainforest 2 Raupe. Can't tell you how much I love these socks on my husband's feet. I wish I had gotten a picture of them on. This picture does not do them justice.
Cast on 80 decrease to 76 for leg and then 38 for heel in short row and 40 for instep after heel decrease back down to 38 for foot. regular toe

Lorna's Laces Springer
Finished June 7, 2007
Lorna's Laces in Springer colorway. Just love them. Soft and sweet looking. Just finished these yesterday with the Opals. I cast on 60 and deceased to 56 for heel and foot. Deceased toe every other row all way to 12 and sewed it up. These are soft and beautiful. Knitted cuff down. There is a 3 garter stitch edge on the flap. First time trying this. Love it. Also did the decease in the corner instead of one stitch over from corner. Like that too. Washed them first before I scanned them. I am going back to scanning before washing. They lie flatter. Used 2.5m needle.

Opal Rodeo 1150
Finished June 7, 2007
Opal Rodeo 1150. I cast on 60 deceased to 56 for heel and foot. Made them a little different. They fit my daughter perfectly. Didn't make them long enough since they fit so great now they won't in 3 months. I will cut off the toes and add some then rather than do away with the socks. Used a 2.5m needle. Went to knit picks to buy the size one and they were already out. Knit cuff down. When I got to the toe I countinued the decrease every other row until I had 12 stitches left. Folded over the outside stitches on the next stitches to make 10 left and then sewed the toe shut.

Opal Rainforest 2 Schlange Socks
Socks are complete! 5/15/07 These have taken me the longest actual working time of any pair yet. I don't spend a lot of time knitting per day so I thought I would be working on these until next christmas. It is because they are on 0 needle. I had to needle 99 stitches per row and 92 on others to get a good fit. I didn't make them match on purpose. I wasn't sure I even liked them until I saw them on his feet. Very cool looking. Lately, he has been wearing out his socks in about 4 or 5 months. They were on size 1's so I decided to do a smaller gauge of 11 stitches. Since it feels like it took 2 times longer maybe wearing out ones socks in 4 or 5 months isn't so bad. I am re thinking my plan of 0 needles all the time. I get 9 stitches on 2.5 which are really 1-1/2 needle size. Will use larger needles for next socks. Short row toe up with short row heel.
